US Commemorates 21st Anniversary of 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

9/11 Terrorist Attacks

21 years after the deadliest terrorist assault on American soil,

people are remembering 9/11 with minutes of silence,

recitation of the names of the victims, volunteer work, and other memorials.

At the Pentagon, the World Trade Center, and a field in Pennsylvania,

where hijacked planes fell on September 11, 2001, relatives and dignitaries will gather on Sunday.

Candlelight vigils, interfaith services, and other commemorations are being held in other places across the nation to mark the occasion.

On a day that is legally recognised as Patriot Day and

a National Day of Service and Remembrance, some Americans are participating in volunteer endeavours.

The celebrations come after a contentious milestone jubilee last year.

It happened a few weeks after the erratic and humiliating conclusion of the Afghan war,

which the United States had started in reaction to the attacks.
